In this Lino-cut print I have tried to capture the beauty of an everyday urban scene in Margate, I love how the shop sign stands proud despite being slightly eroded around the edges. The shuttered front protects the empty interior, the gratified doorway adorns this deserted space as people walk past admiring this still proud building.

In this painting the facade of the old Woolworth’s reflects Margate’s grandeur and faded beauty, with the beautiful windows with iron railings, the faded mural painted onto the windows and the barred security windows to protect the memories inside. Woolworth’s holds so many memories for people of a certain age, their first LP or getting their quarter of sweets, and it is amazing to still see it in Margate despite being closed their is a suggestion of what was and maybe what could be. The figure passing by carrying vinyl also reflects the past but how it can again return.
