The City of London at Dusk

This is a panoramic photograph of London. It was created by digitally blending together many individual images taken with a powerful telephoto lens, creating a wide panoramic view of great detail, rich tones and very high resolution. The curiously tranquil air and cool, pale blue light captured Butler’s eye as he contemplated this view. As he waited until the lights of the buildings began to be switched on, he knew he had an interesting shot. Pointing the telephoto lens towards the tall skyscrapers of The City, including the baroque dome of St Paul’s Cathedral, Butler captured this view just as the last, lingering rays of the setting sun behind him were glinting and reflecting off the gleaming glass and steel of the buildings, mingling with the sparkling lights of the myriads of offices. This perfect luminous balance of natural and artificial lights lasts for only a moment, but he was there in place ready to capture it. This is a limited edition print available also in larger sizes.
