Description
Pink 51.3 N. is part of Hermione’s ‘Modern Architecture’ series focusing on subjects such as light, translucence, and distance. Although inspired by her trips to Japan in 2013 and 2016, this painting’s title refers to the geographical location that it was painted, relating it to a particular time and place. She explores relationships between colour and perspective and captures these by overlaying multiple layers of oil paint creating a balance of translucent and opaque shapes. The paintings comprise three panels backed by plywood to create a sculptural quality to her work. Colours are reflected from the inner edges of the divisions within the paintings, playing on the tension created by the juxtaposition of the precise, physical divisions between the unyielding, hard wood exterior with the soft, hand painted surfaces.
