Description
Stole is among Hume’s most abstract and minimalist work to date. Hume originally favoured the technique of screenprinting for its close resemblance to the flat and smooth surfaces of paintings, but opted for a rough and distressed finish of the aluminium leaf. The fissured texture of the prints contrasts sharply with the polished aluminium panels of his paintings. In Stole Hume has stripped portraiture bare beyond its essentials, rendering it almost illegible. Technique A single screenprint with aluminium leaf; 6 printings using 2 screens. The aluminium leaf is laid down by hand and sealed with varnish. Printed on 400gsm Somerset Tub Sized paper. Published in 2005.
