Sanctum

Description

This hand-made drawing was created in the beautiful Ayrshire, at the 18th Century palladian country house, Dumfries House in Scotland. It forms part of a collection of intricate, personal drawings created by Olivia Peake whilst completing her residency at The Royal School of Drawing during December 2016. Sanctum takes influence from the architecture of the Prince’s Drawing School Dimplex Studio which opened in 2012 by HRH Prince Charles. Being resident in the studios for the winter month it became a safe retreat and sanctuary for creativity and exploration. Sanctum echoes the interior beauty of the exposed wooden beams and stone walls of what was once the laundry house for the Bute family at Dumfries house in 1760, reflecting both a comfort and domesticity. With both historical context and contemporary regeneration, Peake presents her Neo-Futuristic style in capturing a hidden gem of Scottish culture.
