Description
An original lithograph featuring Robert Dunt’s iconic Distortion Forms that are like a visual sensation of listening to music, and which can also be seen on his larger oil paintings. The print demonstrates some of the different techniques that can be used in lithography. The Distortion Forms are ‘drawn’ in and then the darker sections are either drawn in, painted in or have had paint flicked onto them from a toothbrush, with the surrounding areas protected by gum arabic. The image is then printed. Robert is inspired by the band The Jesus and Mary Chain who wrote ‘pretty’ three chord Beach Boys like pop songs and then layered them with feedback, white noise and distortion. The loose curved black and white Distortion Forms are the visual metaphor for the white noise and feedback. Visually the Distortion Forms relate to optical art and have an effect that makes the eyes dance, like a visual sensation of listening to music.
