Description
This image consists of a series of shots I took form a rooftop in Canary Wharf in the east of London. The sun had just set but the sky was glowing with the warm, rich evening colours before dark, against which the lights in the myriads of windows twinkle and mingle like in a magical scene. In the foreground, the River Thames snakes its way across the scene, curving just on front of Tower Bridge and the Shard. I am out photographing in London regularly, but only very occasionally am I lucky to get such dazzling colours in the sky. The skill of a photographer is not only to be able to capture these, but also to capture the precise moment when the evanescent light balances and matches perfectly with the artificial street and building lights. This shot, as all of my panoramic views of London (and elsewhere), are made up of a minimum of 10 individual shots, digitally stitched together afterwards in Photoshop. When you are taking long exposures of sometimes 10-20 seconds, and you need to take a dozen shots in order to capture the entire breadth of the scene, it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to then combine these images smoothly and seamlessly, as they quickly become darker from one to the next, and therefore careful editing is required progressively in order for them to all match up together! It is available in this standard size of 135 x 45cm, but also in any larger, custom size.
