One of my favourite subjects, standing on the shore and staring out to sea. This is pretty much the exact same scene anywhere along the English coast, but always completely different in terms of light, colour and feel. Christopher Witchall’s seascape paintings capture the atmosphere and vast skies of the English coastline. His unsentimental approach to his subject combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
